The Point House was the venue for a return visit on New Year’s eve for Pat McIntyre, whose last visit in August was so well received by a large crowd in the outdoor marquee. The weather wasn’t as good this time but the atmosphere was. A small but appreciative audience heard a varied repertoire of renditions old and new.
Interspersed with classic favourites by artists such as Bob Dylan, Paul Weller, Bob Marley and local boy David Gray were some of Pat’s own compositions. Fans can listen again on Pat’s myspace page.
As well as being a gifted musician and singer Pat has that rare ability of communicating with his audience. By the time the new year had been seen in we were all singing along and the evening was pronounced a great success. As the audience departed he got many thanks for a very entertaining evening. Many thanks to mine hosts Dougie and Carol for providing the venue for a great start to the new year.
Christmas 2006 was a very relaxed affair. We spent a few days with the family stuffing our faces with vegetarian delights and I regressed to my childhood with cravings for chocolate balls and a fine selection of ‘pick n mix’ being the order of the day. We took a fantastic walk along a small section of the Pembrokeshire coast path ending up on Freshwater West, one of the most beautiful beaches in the county. There were families walking their dogs and a large gathering of people burning up quantities of driftwood while keeping an eye on the ever lowering grey clouds hoping that the rain held off.
Boxing day was, as is often the case, a more enjoyable day. After a late night of Christmas merriment we awoke to another grey and damp day. Mum busied herself preparing more food for our guests who arrived early while the rest of the family went off walking. I took a stroll along East Angle Bay in the shadow of the Texaco oil refinery which we have learned to ignore. I met up with my Dad and we went off investigating some man made earthworks which we decided were probably some kind of disused oil settling tanks. Very eerie indeed.
Much fun was had later on where we gorged ourselves once more and drunk copious amounts of Dads brown ale. A very silly party game kept us entertained for most of the evening played out in Mum and Dads newly weatherproofed conservatory which was, up until 3 days previously, a building site!
All in all Christmas 06 was a memorable one and we’re looking forward to New Years Eve at the Old Point House in Angle where my Brother is providing the entertainment in the form an acoustic guitar set to see in 2007. Should be a good one!
Accompanying my wife to the Christmas party at the Milford Haven rugby club on 15th Dec with the Friday Ad crew lunatics was great! Inebriation was well underway by the time we got there (fashionably late) and the party was just getting started, right! Hardly knew anyone but was quite happy to make idle chit chat with Will and Jamie.
Someone kept giving us free drinks tokens which was handy. So we made use of them (be rude not to). Ended up pretty pissed and at the end of the night I upset poor Lee who was mortally offended that I greeted him as ‘Leslie’ … I’d mis-heard him when he told me his name. Either he was slurring or I have wax in my ears
Props to Ann J who, with the deft use of a dustpan and brush, avoided disaster and probable hospitalisation for the poor soul who would’ve fallen on the broken glass, the result of a drunken collision on the dance floor
Anyway a very good time was had by all. The DJ’s were wonderful and kept the party rockin with an 80’s selection which Parfitt and Rossi would’ve been proud of
If anyone has some photos of the night which they’d like put up on this blog then email them to info@pembrokeshirepeople.co.uk
Good one Fri Dad, see you next year!
